Sylvie is a French national born in 1973.
She is an experienced traveller 35 countries/cities in the world since 1990 : Amsterdam, Bratislava, Budapest, Brussels, Guangzhou, Cambodia, Croatia, Damascus, Denmark, Dubai, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hong-Kong, Istanbul, Ireland, Italy, Kuala Lumpur, Lebanon, Lisbon, Malta, Morocco, Northern Ireland, New York, Norway, Prague, Quebec, Spain + Menorca Island, Switzerland, Taipei, Thailand, Tokyo, Vienna and Wales.
In Rome she currently takes classes in graphic design, wine tasting and is also participating weekly on Art History visits with the “Associazione Culturale Romana”. She also does voluntary work 10-15h/week with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). She practices regularly swimming, rock-climbing, bicycling, rollerblading and hiking, and in winter she goes skiing regularly. She travels as much as she can.
She opened Maria-Rosa Guesthouse in November 2006, and only 3 years later the guesthouse has been included in 2 guide books. The guesthouse is now included in Trastevere as : Top Choice in 3 versions of the Lonely Planet: “Europe", "On a Shoestring" and “Mediterranean Europe” ; First Position in the French guides “Le Guide du Routard Rome” and "Michelin Guide Vert Week-end Rome" ; Cheapest in the Italian Guides “Il Gambero Rosso Rome” and “Gamberro Rosso Italy Viaggiarbene”.
She moved to Rome in November 2000 and studied for 3 years mosaics, photography, Rome history of art, astronomy, drawing, ceramics and Italian. She has also made and sold on the Ponte Sisto, a collection of twelve black and white postcards - on sale at Maria-Rosa Guesthouse, self-taught.
Sylvie launched her photo website in November 1999 and after just one week was honored with the 'Website of the week' award by the UK’s ‘Amateur Photographer’ magazine. She also had nine articles published in the English and German press between 1999 and 2008. Her pictures have also won acclaim from diverse editors, photographers, artists and designers, from all over the world. In December 2008, nine of her photos of the event «the Tiber river threatens to burst its banks (up to 12,50m)» have been published, on a total of 32 pages of the online editions of “La Repubblica, National Edition & Rome Edition”.
Between 1996 and 2007 Sylvie has worked: in Dublin – Ireland, as Account for two years in advertising agencies. In Grenoble – France, for three years as PR Expert with an American public relations agency. In Rome, for two years as Manager in the tourism industry running a small hotel/B&B booking agency ; for two years as Product Manager at the communication department of a publishing house ; and for two years as Purchase Manager importing products mainly from China/Asia.
Sylvie has a degree in Copy-Writing, Advertising and Communication from the University of Grenoble - France, a Diploma in "English for Commerce" from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a Diploma of "Third Level of Italian" from the University of Siena – Italy.
